What is a Senate Committee?

Basically, a senate committee is a group of senators who are given authority over a certain issue issue. These committees listen to different viewpoints on proposals, analyze the proposals, and ultimately come up with their own proposal to present to the Senate for a full Senate vote. Many times, these committees will also set up subcommittees to examine these proposals.
